We've learned that Alaska is the state with the highest rate of violent crime, but which state has the lowest? Look about 4,000 miles to the east: Vermont. The latter has 99.3 incidents per 100,000 residents, well below the national average of 366, reports 24/7 Wall St. In fact, it registered just 10 murders in 2014. Here are the 10 safest states in terms of violent crime:

  4. New Hampshire (196.1)
  5. Virginia (196.2)
  6. Kentucky (211.6)
