Israel Peace Not Imminent: McCain

John McCain's tour of the Middle East continued today in Sderot, an Israeli town hit frequently by rockets from the Gaza Strip, Reuters reports. The Republican presidential candidate said he doubts peace between Israel and the Palestinians will be reached this year, and added that he supports Israel's rights to retaliate for the strikes.

"I come from a border state, and if people were rocketing my state, I think that the citizens from my state would advocate a very vigorous response," the Arizona senator said. McCain said the crisis in Gaza means a peace agreement needs to reached as quickly as possible, Reuters adds. "We've got to have the peace process move forward," he said. (More John McCain stories.)
