Cornell entered today’s game against Stanford with a 16-game winning streak, and watching the first 10 minutes or so of the game would have led some to believe they could pull off No. 17, and a huge upset in the process. Then the Stanford Cardinal came alive, going on to rout the Big Red 77-53, and enjoying a first-round tourney win for the first time in three years.

Shooting 30% - and an NCAA tournament record-low 15.6% in the first half -  from field goal range didn’t help Cornell.  Stanford outrebounding them 44-23 didn’t, either. Kenny Brown led the Cardinal offense with 18 points, while Lawrence Hill nabbed 10 boards.  Cornell did hit 9 of 13 from the line, but that was as good as it got for the Big Red. Stanford moves on to face No. 6 Marquette Saturday. (More Stanford Cardinal stories.)
