Donald Trump may have once called out Ben Carson's "pathological temper" and likened him to a child molester, but in the world of campaign politics, rivals often have short memories—or extremely forgiving ones. Proof positive: Ben Carson's official endorsement of the GOP front-runner, which he announced at a Friday morning press conference at Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida, Politico reports. Rumors of the backing surfaced Thursday, and before he spoke in Florida, Carson himself tweeted, "Many people fight for change in DC. #realDonaldTrump is a leader with an outsider's perspective & the vision, guts & energy to get it done." At the press conference, Carson got more into the how and why of his newfound support, first acknowledging: "We buried the hatchet. That was political stuff."
Carson went on to say he had "a lot more alignment philosophically and spiritually" with Trump than he had thought, and that there are actually "two different Donald Trumps. There's the one you see on the stage and there's the one who's very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully. … That's the Donald Trump that you're going to see more and more of right now." (Trump himself later mulled over that assertion, noting, "Perhaps there are two Donald Trumps.") Most importantly, Carson—who said he prayed about his decision, per CNN—revealed he thinks it's time to stop the bickering and start seriously thinking about how to advance the GOP candidate, whom he calls a "very intelligent man who cares deeply about America."
