Prosecutor: Man Admits to Being 'Man in Hat' at Airport Bombing

Mohamed Abrini, who was arrested Friday in Brussels, reportedly confessed Saturday to being the "man in the hat" long sought by authorities in connection with the attacks that killed 32 people in March, ABC News reports. According to the BBC, a federal prosecutor says the 31-year-old Belgian admitted to being present during the bombing at the Brussels airport after being confronted with the evidence against him. He was charged Saturday with terrorist murders and participating in the activities of a terrorist group. Abrini has been on Europe's most wanted list since the November attacks in Paris that killed 130 people, the Guardian reports. Authorities believe he played a part in those attacks as well; his fingerprints were allegedly found in a car used in the Paris attacks.

Authorities say Abrini threw his vest in a garbage can and sold his hat following the Brussels airport suicide bombing in which his two accomplices were killed. He is believed to have travelled to Syria last summer, and his younger brother died in that country in 2014 after joining ISIS. Six people total were arrested Friday in Brussels. Two of them were released, and the remaining four—including Abrini and another man suspected of being present at the Brussels subway bombing—were charged with terrorism-related crimes Saturday.
