A.J. Abrams, recruited by Miami coach Frank Haith while the latter was a Texas assistant, made two free throws with 9 seconds remaining as the Longhorns advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in seven years with a 75-72 victory over the Hurricanes. Texas started quickly, making 9-of-16 three pointers and taking an 11-point halftime lead, reports AP.

But the Longhorns couldn't close the game from the line, with its numerous misses including an airball by star guard D.J. Augustin with 1.8 seconds left. That forced them to break up a long pass at the buzzer to seal the win. Damion Jones had 16 points, 16 rebounds for UT, while Miami's Jack McClinton, a first-round star with 38 points, cooled off today, scoring only 18. (More NCAA basketball stories.)
