It’s been 14 years since UConn won a first-round women's NCAA tournament game by less than 23 points.  Today was no exception, as they routed Cornell, 89-47. Already the Huskies have fared better than their male counterparts, who lost in the first round of their tourney. Maya Moore led UConn with 17 points as the team improves to 33-1.  In other women’s tournament action:

  • Not too long ago few people would have predicted Purdue to make the NCAA tournament; now they’re advancing to the second-round after beating Utah, 66-59. Kalika France and FahKara Malone both scored 17 points for the Boilermakers.
  • Shahida Jones tore things up for Old Dominion as the Lady Monarchs scorched Liberty, 82-62. Today’s win comes after losing their last five first-round games.
