The New York GOP primary could hardly have gone worse for Ted Cruz: According to early results, he not only failed to win a single one of the state's 62 counties, he came in third, behind both Donald Trump and John Kasich, in all but a handful. He spent primary night in Pennsylvania, one of the states voting next week, and invoked Bernie Sanders and President Obama, among others, in a speech in Philadelphia, the New York Times reports. Obama "ran on a slogan that should have been a great first step," but his "prescriptions only led to more elitist control from Washington," Cruz said. "Not only do we say, 'Yes, we can,' beginning here and now, we pledge to each and every one of us: Yes. We. Will."
In the Philadelphia speech, Cruz's only reference to Trump was a "politician tonight winning his home state," the Times notes. Earlier in the day, the candidate—who is now mathematically eliminated from winning a majority of delegates before the convention—defended his delegate strategy to a clearly annoyed Sean Hannity, CNN reports. "I cannot help that the Donald Trump campaign does not seem capable of running a lemonade stand," Cruz said, accusing the rival campaign of "whining" because it "does not know how to organize on the grassroots."
