Donald Trump laid out his "America First" foreign policy ideas in a speech Wednesday, and he didn't exactly wow the media. Here's a look at some coverage:

  • Politico talks to "foreign policy insiders" from the left and right and finds that they were unimpressed with what one calls an "odd mishmash." Overall, Trump gets a "failing grade for coherence." Read it here.
  • The New York Times analysis sees a speech with "establishment trappings," an "insurgent tone," and "a mélange of ideas that defied Republican and Democratic orthodoxy."
  • Read the speech for yourself here.
  • The AP conducts a fact-check and finds plenty of Trump's trademark "truthful hyperbole" going on.

  • The Guardian picks out 10 "inconsistencies" in the speech itself, ranging from Iran to immigration.
  • Germany's foreign minister thinks Trump is out of step with how the world works. See Reuters.
  • The Los Angeles Times makes the case that Trump moved to what is "unusual territory" for him, "somewhere close to middle ground."
  • The Economist has a post headlined "Look out, world" on the "blustery, error-strewn account of an 'America First' philosophy that took little account of how the world actually looks from the Oval Office."
  • In a common sentiment, columnist Susan Dunn thinks the term "America First" is awful, given its association with "the isolationist, defeatist, anti-Semitic national organization that urged the United States to appease Adolf Hitler." More at CNN.
  • "The same guy who's not sure if NATO's worth keeping up is worried that 'our friends are beginning to think they can't depend on us.' What?" writes Allahpundit at Hot Air.
