John Malkovich is starring in a movie that no one will see for 100 years—or a teaser that promotes a very expensive cognac. According to the Cannes Film Festival and a teaser released last year, Robert Rodriguez has directed Malkovich in the film 100 Years: The Movie You Will Never See, which is slated to be kept in a safe at Cannes and screened there on Nov. 18, 2115, the Independent reports. The movie was made with support from Louis XIII cognac, which is promoted in the dark and moody teaser and happens to take 100 years to age (it also runs for about $2,775 a bottle, per the Whisky Exchange).
"Part of the notion inherent in this is for us to try to imagine what the world will be like in 100 years," Malkovich says in the teaser. Rodriguez adds, "I was intrigued by the concept of working on a film that nobody would ever see in my lifetime." So is this just a gag? Not according to an interview Malkovich gave in November about the film: "I just thought it was a very clever and fascinating concept to do something which essentially certainly I will never see," he told People. "I've certainly acted in a lot of movies I've never seen and a number of them I wouldn't particularly be tempted to." One possible problem: People a hundred years from now may have no idea how to run film through a camera, notes the Washington Post. (More film stories.)
