You're sitting down? Great: There's a person on Earth who owns a $300,168 handbag, CNN Style reports. Christie's auctioned off the Diamond Himalaya Niloticus by Hermes on Monday, breaking a world record with the crocodile bag that features white gold and diamonds. The sale by a private Asian collector follows last year's then-record-breaking auction of another Hermes bag for $222,000, as CNN Money reported at the time, so the latest shocker should ensure Hermes' reputation for rare and pricey handbags. The only problem, it seems, is using them. "Am I sorry I didn't purchase the bag?" asks a New York-based appraiser of another expensive handbag. "No, not really, because I would be afraid to use it every day for fear of ruining it." (Read more handbag stories.)
