A convicted killer has escaped from a state prison in Arkansas, sparking a manhunt near that state's borders of Tennessee and Mississippi. Authorities say 40-year-old Lloyd Jones escaped around noon Monday while working at a construction site about two miles from East Arkansas Regional Correctional Facility in Brickeys, where he was serving a 60-year sentence for the murder of a teenage girl, reports the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Jones was allowed on work detail under armed guard, per KARK, but it isn't clear how he managed to escape. A rep for the Arkansas Department of Correction says "every resource possible," including K-9 dogs and helicopters, is being used to find Jones, described as 6 feet tall, 205 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
"The search perimeter is focused around the escape location and adjacent areas," authorities say, noting the area includes fields, swampy creeks, and ditches. They add that Jones—who has tattoos of dragons, flames, a woman, wizard, castle, skull, and snake—may not get far in high temperatures without water. Jones was paroled in 2008 after a 2001 rape conviction before he lured 16-year-old Angela Allen on social media in 2012, per the Democrat-Gazette. He then strangled the teen and buried her body on his family's property. He was originally sentenced to 60 years in prison for murder, 20 years on two child-pornography charges, 10 years on another child porn charge, and 10 years for abusing a corpse.
