Being in a big city doesn't always translate into having a great mobile network performance. The New York City area, for example, may be the most populous in the nation, but it comes in at a mediocre 59th in a new ranking by RootMetrics. The site looked at the 125 biggest metro areas in the US and ranked them on a variety of factors including overall performance, reliability, speed, and call and text performance. The top 10:

  1. Lansing, Mich. (117th biggest area)
  2. Indianapolis (32)
  3. Atlanta (9)
  4. Milwaukee (34)
  5. Chicago (3)
  6. Knoxville, Tenn. (73)
  7. Modesto, Calif. (104)
  8. Sacramento (27)
  9. Tampa (17)
  10. Jackson, Miss. (106)
