"Multiple sources" tell WBTV the gun Charlotte police say they found on Keith Scott after he was fatally shot by an officer had been reported stolen. Not only that, but sources say the man who allegedly stole the gun in a burglary claims he sold it to Scott. Scott was shot last week at his apartment complex while police were serving an unrelated warrant. Police say Scott refused to drop a gun he was holding, but his family says he was unarmed. Sources say the gun found near Scott's body was loaded and had his DNA, fingerprints, and blood on it. Police haven't released any information about the man who allegedly stole the gun and sold it to Scott.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Observer is reporting that Scott's wife, Rakeyia Scott, filed a restraining order against him in which she claimed police should consider him a possible threat because he carries a gun. According to WCNC, Rakeyia Scott—in the restraining order filed last October—claimed her husband punched her eight-year-old child in the head multiple times and threatened to shoot and kill both of them. "He said he is a killer and we should know that," she wrote in the order. The restraining order was dropped after 11 days. Keith Scott was convicted in 2005 of shooting and injuring a man he believed was threatening his family. (More Keith Scott stories.)
