Thriller cruises to an easy win as 'Birth of a Nation' flops

Girl on a Train found a home for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children in the No. 2 spot at the box office this weekend, with the thriller dethroning Tim Burton's latest with $24.7 million to $15 million. Deepwater Horizon scored No. 3 with $11.8 million, followed by The Magnificent Seven ($9.2 million), and Storks ($8.5 million). The much anticipated The Birth of a Nation finished a distant sixth, with $7.1 million, reports USA Today. (More box office stories.)
