Many Americans make more in a week than residents in some of the poorest countries earn in an entire year, reports 24/7 Wall St., which has ranked the poorest countries in the world based on gross national income. GNI includes residents' net incomes as well as the country's gross domestic product. Here are the 10 poorest countries by GNI per capita:

  1. Democratic Republic of Congo: $680
  2. Liberia: $683
  3. Burundi: $691
  4. Niger: $889
  5. Guinea: $1,058
  6. Malawi: $1,073
  7. Mozambique: $1,098
  8. Togo: $1,262
  9. Madagascar: $1,320
  10. Comoros: $1,361
