Mariah Has Something to Say About Weird NYE Performance

Mariah Carey's Times Square performance for ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve Saturday night was ... not great. After a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne," Carey attempted to launch into her hit "Emotion," but apparently couldn't hear it properly and repeatedly told the audience no sound check had been done for the song, Us reports. It was downhill from there, with "We Belong Together" going similarly, as Carey failed to sing, asked the audience to sing instead, appeared to be lip-syncing, and said things like "That was ... amazing" and finished off with the declaration, "It just don't get any better" before walking off stage. Afterward, she tweeted to fans: "S--- happens," she wrote, alongside a GIF of her shaking her head. "Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here's to making more headlines in 2017." Her rep later blamed technical difficulties, the AP reports, and added, "Unfortunately there was nothing she could do to continue with the performance given the circumstances." One person who apparently regretted his critical tweet: Josh Groban. The singer initially tweeted, "Any time one of the greatest voices of my generation lip syncs, an angel loses its wings," People reports, but he later deleted the tweet and wrote in its place, "Deleted my tweets about a certain performance because it was made in humor but taken way more meanly than intended.
