President Trump is again insisting that the leaks from the intelligence community that brought down Michael Flynn are a bigger story than the national security adviser's abrupt resignation. "Intelligence, papers are being leaked. Things are being leaked. It's a criminal action—criminal act—and it's been going on for a long time. Before me. But now it's really going on," Trump said during a Wednesday press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during which he also backed away from a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict; more on that here. Trump later added, per Flynn's resignation, that "documents and papers" were "illegally—I stress that—illegally leaked," per Fox News, and said people are attempting to cover up after the Democrats' "terrible loss" with Hillary Clinton, per the New York Times.
He doubled down on those ideas in a string of tweets Wednesday. "This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton's losing campaign," he posted, adding, "The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by 'intelligence' like candy. Very un-American!" He blamed the "fake news media" for stirring up "conspiracy theories and blind hatred," and hypothesized that the FBI and the NSA might be leaking information to the "failing" New York Times and Washington Post. Julian Assange also weighed in on Twitter, noting, "Amazing battle for dominance is playing out between the elected US govt & the IC who consider themselves to be the 'permanent government'."
