Wendy's is getting aggressive with a fast-food trend that might result in fewer human employees. The chain plans to have self-order kiosks in 1,000 of its restaurants by the end of the year, reports the Columbus Dispatch. That accounts for about 16% of the chain's locations. It makes sense, says an exec with industry consulting firm Technomic, because kiosks appeal to younger customers, save on labor costs, and can help ease lines during the lunch and dinner crunch. "This move puts them at the forefront of the kiosk and tech movement,”" says Darren Tristano. Still, if you "prefer humans to robots," you'll still be able to order at the counter, notes Consumerist. At least for the foreseeable future. (More Wendy's stories.)
