This Is Now the Most Expensive House Race in US History

There's a new record for history's most expensive House race. Politico reports more than $29.7 million has been spent on TV ads by candidates and outside groups in Georgia's special election to replace Tom Price, President Trump's new HHS secretary. So many political ads are being created for Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel they're bumping reruns of The Andy Griffith Show to get them on the air. Millions more dollars are being spent on mailers, radio ads, and more.

With six weeks to go before the runoff election, one Republican strategist says the race could surpass $40 million. A former GOP representative says "neither side can afford to lose," hoping to prove whether or not anti-Trump sentiment will be a factor in 2018. According to the Hill, Ossoff was just shy of winning the election outright during the first round of voting last month. The runoff election is June 20. (More House race stories.)
