What career path should you consider if job security is your main concern? To answer that question, 24/7 Wall St. looked at unemployment rates across a variety of fields and found 26 occupations with unemployment rates of just 1% or less—and another 26 with unemployment rates ranging from 8.5% to more than 25%. The jobs with the best job security in the US:

  1. Construction and building inspectors with an unemployment rate of 0.1%
  2. Biological scientists with an unemployment rate of 0.2%
  3. Stationary engineers and boiler operators with an unemployment rate of 0.2%
  4. Directors of religious activities and education with an unemployment rate of 0.2%
  5. Police and sheriff's patrol operators with an unemployment rate of 0.3%
  6. Occupational therapists (tied for 5th) with an unemployment rate of 0.3%

The jobs with the worst job security in the US:

  1. Actors with an unemployment rate of 26.6%
  2. Models, demonstrators, and product promoters with an unemployment rate of 23.4%
  3. Telemarketers with an unemployment rate of 15.1%
  4. Graders and sorters of agricultural products with an unemployment rate of 14.9%
  5. Tax preparers with an unemployment rate of 12.3%
