Suspect Complains About Bad Mugshot, Is Arrested
Wayne Esmonde wasn't a fan of his mugshot.   (South Wales Police Department)

Vanity, thy name is Wayne. The BBC reports police in Wales arrested a man after he asked them to take down his mugshot because it wasn't a good photo of him. According to the Telegraph, 35-year-old Wayne Esmonde was wanted in connection with a July 18 assault, and the South Wales Police Department put Esmonde's mugshot on its Facebook page in the hopes of catching him. "I am him," Esmonde responded to the post. "Not a very flattering mugshot. I'd appreciate it if you'd take this post down. Innocent until proven guilty and all that." Esmonde then turned himself in to police Thursday.

The results of Esmonde's gambit were a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, since police were no longer looking for him, they took down the unflattering mugshot, the Independent reports. On the other hand, Esmonde's concern over his mugshot ensured it was shared on news sites around the world. (Esmonde is far from the only suspect to mix vanity and mugshots: an Australian woman and American man sent police better photos to replace bad mugshots, and another man liked his wanted poster so much he made it his Facebook profile pic.)
