Politics / Bob Corker GOP Senator Calls White House 'Adult Day Care Center' Just the latest barrage in the war of words between Donald Trump and a leader of his own party By Josh Rosenblatt, Newser Staff Posted Oct 8, 2017 2:50 PM CDT Copied In this Sept. 26, 2017, photo, Sen. Scott Applewhite) Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to attack another senior senator from his own party, but this time the senator is swinging back, sparking a remarkable war of words for a party still struggling to find its legislative footing. On Sunday morning, Bob Corker, the longtime senator from Tennessee and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, bemoaned on Twitter that the "White House has become an adult day care center," the Washington Post reports. "Somebody obviously missed their shift this morning." Corker's message came in response to a series of tweets posted by Trump earlier in the day claiming he said "NO" when Corker "begged" him for an endorsement for his re-election campaign and that Corker chose not to run for re-election because he doesn't have "the guts" to do so. CNN reports that the president's endorsement claims are false. Two sources say Trump called Corker last week and asked him not to retire and to reaffirm that he would endorse the senator should he choose to run again. Late last month Corker announced he would not be seeking a third term next year. Last week, Corker lashed out at Trump, saying that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense James Mattis "help separate our country from chaos … [working] well together to make sure that the policies that we put forth around the world are sound and coherent, where other people within the administration, in my belief, are not."
