Breaking Bad fans can be a pushy bunch. "They feel the need to tell us to close our garage, get out of the picture, you know, tell us what to do on our own property," Joanne Quintana tells KOB. Quintana's mother owns the home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that was used as the exterior of Walter White's house in the hit show. The attention that has brought has not been a blessing. Quintana says she can't count how many Breaking Bad fans turn up outside the house every week. She says it was in the hundreds on one busy weekend, and KOB counted nearly 10 tourists in just 15 minutes of observing the house.
Quintana says the visitors trespass on the property and steal rocks from the landscaping as souvenirs. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan even had to ask fans to stop throwing pizzas onto the house's roof in tribute to a popular scene a few years ago. KRQE reports Quintana has put up cameras, signs, and traffic cones to keep people away from the house, but it hasn't worked. "We feel like we can't leave because when we do, something happens," Quintana tells KOB. "That's ridiculous." Now Quintana is installing a 6-foot-high iron fence as a last resort, and she's not happy about it. Despite being the victims, Quintana says they're "the ones who're being locked up." Looky-loos have already started climbing around the fence construction to get photos. The AV Club suggests rude Breaking Bad fans get with the times and start bothering the people who live and work at locations used by Better Call Saul instead. (More Breaking Bad stories.)
