Lindy West isn't the only person miffed that Woody Allen recently piped in on the Harvey Weinstein scandal, saying it shouldn't turn into a "witch hunt"—but she's one of the few conceding that "yes, this is a witch hunt. I'm a witch and I'm hunting you." That's the provocative title of her op-ed piece in the New York Times, in which she notes she's baffled on why Allen spoke out in the first place, considering the accusations against him about molesting his daughter Dylan when she was a child. But while West isn't sure what prompted Allen to offer his take on Weinstein, she does know why he felt OK in doing so: because "the cultural malfunction that allows Allen to feel comfortable issuing that statement is the same malfunction that gave us Allen and Weinstein in the first place: the smothering, delusional, galactic entitlement of powerful men."

West notes the "pathetic gall of men feeling hunted after millenniums of treating women like prey," as well as the "positive deluge" in recent years of sexual harassment and abuse victims making their voices heard. She also points out how different the #MeToo hashtag would be if it included only those who actually saw their perpetrators brought to justice—a number she says would be "minuscule." And that's why, she tells Allen and all other men who hate this type of "rumor mill" on sexual infractions, he's going to have to endure this "witch hunt" atmosphere, writing: "We don't have the justice system on our side; we don't have institutional power; we don't have millions of dollars or the presidency; but we have our stories, and we're going to keep telling them. Happy Halloween." Her column here. (More Harvey Weinstein stories.)
