Senate candidate Roy Moore has been accused of making sexual advances on a 14-year-old girl when he was 32—which is why he wants supporters to give him more money. In a fundraising email Thursday afternoon, the Alabama candidate said the allegations were "filthy and sleazy" lies spread by the "Obama-Clinton Machine's liberal media lapdogs," Politico reports. Three other women have said Moore tried to date them when they were between 16 and 18 and he was in his early 30s. "The forces of evil will lie, cheat, steal— even inflict physical harm—if they believe it will silence and shut up Christian conservatives like you and me," Moore wrote in the email, pleading for "emergency contributions."
Numerous Republican senators have urged Moore to step aside before the Dec. 12 special election if the allegations are true, and President Trump has taken the same position, the Washington Post reports. "Like most Americans, the president does not believe we can allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a person’s life," spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday. "However, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside." Steve Bannon, who broke with Trump to support Moore over Sen. Luther Strange in the GOP primary, slammed the Post, which first reported the allegations, as an "apparatus of the Democratic Party," the AP reports.
