Eight women have accused longtime interviewer and TV host Charlie Rose of making unwanted advances toward them while they were either working on the Charlie Rose show or aspiring to, the Washington Post reports. The women, five of whom spoke to the Post off the record for fear of risking damage to their careers or what they say is Rose's bad temper, describe inappropriate phone calls, unwanted groping, and even times where Rose walked around naked after showers. One says she was brushed off by Rose's executive producer after reporting one incident. "That's just Charlie being Charlie," she said.
In a statement, Rose said he was "greatly embarrassed" by the allegations. "I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior," he said. "I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate." In addition to hosting his eponymous PBS show, Rose also co-hosts CBS This Morning and is a correspondent for 60 Minutes. The alleged incidents occurred between the late 1990s and 2011. In response to the Post story, CBS News has suspended Rose, and PBS has halted the production and distribution of his show. (More Charlie Rose stories.)
