Roy Moore has been called many things—but nobody can accuse him of being a quitter. The Republican, who refused to concede after losing the Dec. 12 special Senate election in Alabama, has filed a last-minute complaint to try to block state officials from certifying the victory of Democratic candidate Doug Jones, NBC News reports. His campaign is seeking a restraining order, alleging "potential election fraud that improperly altered the outcome of this election." "This is not a Republican or Democrat issue as election integrity should matter to everyone," Moore said in a statement Wednesday night. Moore's attorney says there should be an investigation and a new election.
State officials say they have seen no evidence of voter fraud, though Moore's campaign says an expert has told them there is a "less than one in 15 billion" chance that the official result, which gave Jones the win by around 20,000 votes, is accurate. The Alabama State Canvassing Board is due to certify the result Thursday afternoon and Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill says the meeting will not be postponed. The Moore complaint "is not going to delay certification and Doug Jones will be certified at 1pm and he will be sworn in by Vice President Pence on the third of January," the Republican tells the AP.
