Someone is upset about the Taraji P. Henson-starring Proud Mary, which opened in theaters Friday. (Well, someone besides 72% of critics and 44% of audience members.) John Fogerty took to Twitter on Thursday night to complain about the title of his 1968 Creedence Clearwater Revival song being used for a movie about a female assassin, ABC News reports.
"Far from a story about killing people for money," Fogerty writes, the song "Proud Mary" was about "a mythical riverboat, cruising on a mythical river, in a mythical time" that "was obviously a metaphor about leaving painful, stressful things behind." He's also upset about the poster for the film altering his lyrics into "killing for the man every night and day." Fogerty says he was never asked about the film's use of his title and lyrics and that "it irks me when people seek to capitalize on the popularity of my music and the good will it has earned with the public for their own financial gain."
