Zuckerberg Confirms Facebook Is Working With Robert Mueller

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, testifying before Congress Tuesday, said his company is "working with" special counsel Robert Mueller in his probe into Russian interference, the AP reports. Earlier this year Mueller charged 13 Russian individuals and three Russian companies in a plot to interfere in the 2016 presidential election through a social media propaganda effort that included online ad purchases using US aliases and politicking on US soil. Some of the Russian ads were on Facebook. Zuckerberg says he has not been personally interviewed and said he is not aware if the company has been subpoenaed.

Earlier, the 33-year-old tried to assure US lawmakers who are worried that Russia and other foreign powers will use the social media network to meddle in the upcoming midterm elections. He said Facebook has deployed new artificial intelligence tools that do a better job identifying fake accounts. This is intended to help prevent elections interference by foreign actors—something Zuckerberg says is an "arms race."
