Bernie Sanders didn't mince words Sunday when discussing the White House reaction to a staffer who made fun of John McCain's brain cancer, reports CNN. "It is one thing in the White House for somebody to say something crude and stupid and disrespectful about an American hero," he said on CNN's State of the Union. "It is another thing for them not to apologize. It is beyond my comprehension. And I just don't know what goes on in that White House mentality for there not being an apology for that terrible remark." More around the Sunday dial:

  • The polite way of putting it: "If it was a joke, it was a terrible joke," said Sen. Lindsey Graham on Face the Nation, per Politico. "I just wish somebody from the White House would tell the country that was inappropriate, that's not who we are in the Trump administration."

  • On CIA torture: "By all accounts, [Gina Haspel's] had an extraordinary career, a very distinguished career, has really served her country well," former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said of the new CIA director nominee, reports the Hill. "And I think to say she should not be director of CIA today, in the absence of any evidence she did anything wrong fifteen or so years ago, I think is a mistake."
  • Torture or 'pretty please': "If you know Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is the mastermind behind all of this, if you know he is No. 2 to bin Laden in terms of the attack, if you know he's probably the guy who knows more than anybody else except bin Laden what's next, what's the next target, how many people are they gonna kill and how are they gonna do it, and then you tell me that only method we have is, 'please, please, pretty please, tell us what you know,' I don't buy that," said Dick Cheney on Fox News's Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, the Hill reports.
