"Today a man whose actions were so egregious that they spawned a global reckoning has been taken into custody." That man, described in a tweet by the Time's Up organization, is Harvey Weinstein, who USA Today says turned himself in to the NYPD and Manhattan District Attorney's Office Friday morning. The New York Times reported Thursday charges against Weinstein were anticipated to involve the rape of one woman and forcing another woman to perform oral sex, and the AP reports he was indeed hit with rape, criminal sex act, and lower-level sex abuse and sexual misconduct charges. CNN notes Weinstein arrived at the NYPD's 1st Precinct "through a flurry of reporters and photographers ... not unlike the red carpet walks he used to do." USA Today says he showed a "brief smirk" as he emerged from his vehicle and apparently had some trouble walking into the precinct.

He subsequently left the station wearing handcuffs and what the AP describes as a "strained smile." He was arraigned later Friday morning in a Manhattan court, with bail set at $1 million, per the AP. He's also required to wear an electronic monitoring device and not venture outside of New York and Connecticut. MSNBC has video of the arraignment. "Harvey Weinstein shattered the lives of an untold number of women. We stand with them, and remain in solidarity with women everywhere who have faced unsafe and abusive workplaces," Time's Up says in a follow-up tweet. "We look forward to seeing justice prevail."
