President Trump on Wednesday took to Twitter to once again air his displeasure with Attorney General Jeff Sessions. In a trio of tweets, Trump mainly quoted from a CBS This Morning interview with House Oversight Chair Trey Gowdy, writing in part that Gowdy said, "If I were the President and I picked someone to be the country's chief law enforcement officer, and they told me later, 'Oh by the way I'm not going to be able to participate in the most important case in the office,' I would be frustrated too ... There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!" Those words were all Gowdy's, but then Trump added, "And I wish I did!"

It may be another variation on a theme for Trump, but Axios attaches some significance to it, noting the tweets come a day after Trump tweeted that he needed to start shifting his energy to subjects like North Korea and trade, not the "Rigged Russia Witch Hunt." But Wednesday's tweets "show that the subject is still very much on his mind, rekindling fears that he might choose to fire Sessions and derail Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe." CNN gives context to the Gowdy lines Trump was quoting, reporting he was answering a question about a Tuesday New York Times report that claimed Trump in March 2017 "berated" Sessions during a Mar-a-Lago dinner over his choice to recuse himself from the Russia probe and asked him to flip that decision.
