There was a time that Lindsay Lohan was a constant presence in the tabloids. Not so anymore, and the New York Times catches up with her for a profile revealing what the now 32-year-old is up to—and how she became, in writer Gabrielle Bluestone's words, America's "greatest export." Turns out she's now living in Dubai and just opened Lohan Beach House in Greece, an apparently quite popular Mykonos beach club with a restaurant and bar. Another Lohan-branded club will soon open on the Greek island of Rhodes, and she's planning a Lohan island in Dubai. She's also still in showbiz, having recently filmed British series Sick Note and with a reality series centered around her club in the works. She says she has other roles coming as well, and she's optioned Tina Seskis' psychological thriller The Honeymoon.
She meditates at least twice a day and follows astrology and numerology; as for her family, previously almost as much of a tabloid presence as she was, she FaceTimes with them and says, "We’re all friends. My mom and dad are friends, everyone’s good." Why Dubai? "When I chose to change my future, my life, I was like, 'Where’s the one place I can find silence?'" she explains. In Dubai, photographing private moments is often illegal, and Lohan feels protected from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. "It’s the safest place. It’s less demanding. America is always like, 'Go go go go go!' I don’t have to turn on the news and see about the Kardashians. I don’t have to see anything anymore. I choose what I want to see and how I want to live."
