Grizzly Euthanized After 20-Foot Fall

One of an estimated 300 grizzly bears in Montana's Glacier National Park had to be euthanized this week after a 20-foot fall left it partially paralyzed. It was found on its back in the middle of a road late Sunday, leading rangers to speculate it had been hit by a car. Further study revealed the non-lactating female, believed to be between the ages of 5 and 7, had slipped from a precipice.

After consulting with a wildlife biologist, rangers euthanized the bear, which was then found to have suffered "significant trauma to its thoracic vertebrae, broken ribs, and a dislocated hip," per National Parks Traveler.
