Almost two weeks after she was rushed to the hospital following an apparent overdose, Demi Lovato broke her silence with an emotional Instagram post Sunday. "I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," she wrote. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet." Lovato, who has spoken openly in the past about her struggles with mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse, has been hospitalized since July 24, when she was reportedly treated with medication to reverse an opioid overdose.
The 25-year-old singer thanked her fans, her family, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, People notes. "Without them, I wouldn't be here writing this letter to all of you," she wrote. "I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side," she wrote. "I will keep fighting." Sources tell E! News that Lovato, "scared but grateful to be alive," will be leaving the hospital in the near future and going straight to a rehab facility. (More Demi Lovato stories.)
