A North Carolina woman says her ex-husband, a Special Forces major at Fort Bragg, posted "revenge porn" photos of her online because he was angry about paying child support. Elizabeth Ann Clark's civil lawsuit against Adam Matthew Clark appears to be the first of its kind in Cumberland County since North Carolina's revenge porn law took effect in 2015, the Fayetteville Observer reports, though officials couldn't determine whether it was the state's first revenge porn lawsuit. Elizabeth Clark, who reportedly wed Adam Clark in 2010 and had two children with him, says in the lawsuit that while her now-ex was away for military duties, they exchanged explicit photos. After their relationship ended, the lawsuit says, Elizabeth Clark learned earlier this year that Adam Clark and his new partner had posted those photos on various websites.
That new partner, Kimberly Rae Barrett, is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit; Elizabeth Clark says Adam Clark had an affair with her (the couple now reportedly live together and have a child together) and that Barrett took part in "a coordinated campaign" with Adam Clark "to harass and humiliate" Elizabeth Clark. In addition to the nude photos allegedly posted online, the lawsuit accuses Adam Clark and Barrett of posting a Craigslist ad, using Elizabeth Clark's name and contact info, saying Elizabeth Clark had STDs and offering sexual favors. Under the 2015 law, defendants may be ordered to pay $10,000 or more for posting revenge porn photos; the law also made revenge porn a felony, but the Observer notes that in this case it does not appear criminal charges have been filed.
