An actor known best for his role on The Cosby Show who was snapped by a Trader Joe's customer when he was spotted working as a cashier is being defended against the ensuing ridicule by fans and famous folks alike across social media. Geoffrey Owens, who played the role of Elvin Tibideaux from 1985 to 1992, was photographed at a New Jersey location of the grocery store and the photos subsequently fell into the hands of Fox News, the Daily Mail and other outlets that put the 57-year-old on blast for his cashier job, KRON reports. Photos of Owens in the chain's familiar tropics-inspired uniform went viral and that hasn't been sitting well with his fellow thespians and even some Hollywood elites.
Judd Apatow, for instance, was among those rallying behind Owens, who the director called a "fantastic, hilarious actor" in a tweet Saturday. Owens' fellow 80s sitcom star Justine Bateman took a less lofty approach, tweeting: "26 years after one TV job, this guy looks differently (shock) and is earning an honest living at a Trader Joe’s. The people taking his picture and passing judgment are trash." Other actors, like Hogwart's alum Chris Rankin, revealed their own jobs outside the limelight. "I worked in a Wetherspoons kitchen after being in Harry Potter. I needed a job, no shame in that," Ranking tweeted.
