As Brett Kavanaugh fends off the allegations of a second accuser, he has the unequivocal support of a key backer—President Trump. "I am with him all the way," Trump said Monday as he entered the UN headquarters in New York, reports the Washington Post. Trump also dismissed the accusations as "totally political," per Politico. "For people to come out of the woodwork from 36 years ago and 30 years ago and—never mentioned it, all of a sudden it happens—in my opinion, it's totally political," he said. "There's a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate for anything."
Those statements seem in line with the view of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, who said on CBS This Morning that "it's starting to feel like a vast left-wing conspiracy" against Kavanaugh. "I know there's pent-up demand for women to get their day, women who have been sexually harassed and sexually assaulted, and I personally am very aggrieved for all of them, but we cannot put decades of pent-up demand for women to feel whole on one man's shoulders." Conway cast doubt on the new accusation, citing Deborah Ramirez's acknowledgement that she was drunk at the time of the alleged incident and hazy on details. "What exactly is the standard for ruining one man's life based on decades of allegations that have nothing to do with him?" said Conway. (More President Trump stories.)
