An explosive marriage marred by alleged drug use, domestic violence, and a child's fatal beating ended Saturday when the father plunged off the roof of a Manhattan hotel, the New York Post reports. Mohammad Torabi, 31, was found dead on a third-floor landing of the Renaissance New York Hotel on East 57th Street. Torabi's apparent suicide adds a sad twist to the tale of his marriage to Tina Torabi, 30, who was charged with assault after their one-year-old twins, Kian and Elaina, were found Wednesday suffering from "severe body trauma" at the family's Flushing home. Elaina, who had a head puncture wound, stomach laceration, and cigarette burns, was soon pronounced dead at a Flushing hospital, NBC New York reports.

Police sources say they planned to investigate the father, who'd been estranged from Tina since she made domestic violence allegations against him and issued a restraining order last year, per the Daily News. "Maybe he's the one who did all that stuff to his daughter," an investigative source tells the Post. "He must have thought, 'I'm going to jail now.'" The story goes back to Mohammad and Tina's 2012 Houston marriage, which police sources say was marred by drugs and violence. After moving to New York to be near Mohammad's family, the twins were born with opioids in their systems, and the couple's estrangement left Tina struggling to raise five children in all. The surviving son, Kian, remains in critical but stable condition, and the three others are being held by New York children's services. (More suicide stories.)
