Pete Doherty, the perpetually troubled rock star and ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss, was released early from prison today. The frontman of the band Babyshambles had been imprisoned for violating his probation after a conviction for possession of crack, heroin and other drugs, reports the Telegraph. Doherty had served about one month of a 98-day sentence.
Outside a London jail, Doherty, apparently not big on current events, told the scrum of reporters, "Thank you Mrs. Thatcher for putting me in the company of the most dangerous criminals in the country." He sidestepped journalists' questions of whether he had taken heroin in jail, a claim that had circulated in recent days. Doherty called the prison facilities "good" but said "they can’t really cater for the average junkie." (More Pete Doherty stories.)
