Trump Hails 'Tremendous Success,' Self as 'Magic Man'

President Trump appears to be taking a glass-half-full approach to the midterm election results. "Tremendous success tonight. Thank you to all!" he tweeted Tuesday night after continued Republican control of the Senate was assured, though the Democrats had regained control of the House. The GOP Senate victories included wins for Kevin Cramer in North Dakota and Mike Braun in Indiana, Trump allies who defeated Democratic incumbents, the Washington Post reports. The new slate of Senate Republicans is expected to be more solidly pro-Trump than the last, though Mitt Romney, who won in Utah, may prove to be a thorn in the president's side, analysts say.

Hours later, after the Democratic victory in the House was confirmed, Trump tweeted again about the Senate victories, quoting remarks author Ben Stein made during election coverage on the Fox Business Network. "There’s only been 5 times in the last 105 years that an incumbent President has won seats in the Senate in the off year election. Mr. Trump has magic about him. This guy has magic coming out of his ears. He is an astonishing vote getter & campaigner," Trump tweeted. "The Republicans are unbelievably lucky to have him and I’m just awed at how well they’ve done. It's all the Trump magic - Trump is the magic man."
