Andrew Gillum has ended his race for Florida governor, Time reports. In a Facebook video, the Democrat conceded the race Saturday after finding himself 30,000 votes behind Republican Ron DeSantis in a legally mandated machine recount. DeSantis' margin was above the 0.25 percentage points required for a manual recount, notes NPR.
"This has been the journey of our lives. We've been so honored by the support that we’ve received,” Gillum says in the video, per CNBC. “We know that this fight continues, in spite of the outcome of this election." Gillum conceded on election night but retracted his concession a few days later when absentee ballots narrowed DeSantis' margin. (The Florida Senate race is headed for a manual recount.)
