The partial government shutdown is now in its 28th day, per a CNN tracker, and President Trump is now promising some big news on it. The president tweeted late Friday afternoon: "I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse." CNBC notes not many details have emerged on what the announcement will entail, though a senior administration official tells CNN that Trump plans on sliding across the table a new proposal to Democrats to end the shutdown.
The official notes that the border wall won't be one of the items Trump steps away from, but that other offerings will sweeten the pot for the Dems. The official adds that a decision on whether or not to declare a national emergency isn't expected to be on the president's agenda during the Saturday announcement, but as CNN notes, "nothing is definite until it's announced by the president."
