Authorities say a Michigan man was fatally struck by a car while trying to remove his daughter's dead cat from a roadway before she saw it. Saginaw County sheriff's officials say 50-year-old Andrew Rosas of Merrill was struck before sunrise Tuesday by a woman who was driving to work and apparently didn't see him. Investigators say Rosas was wearing dark clothing, per the AP. His wife, Jennifer, saw the crash, which occurred about 95 miles northwest of Detroit. She tells WNEM-TV that her husband went into the roadway with a shovel to remove the cat and held up the shovel to try to get the driver's attention.

That's when she says she saw the car hit him: "She just plowed into him, didn't put on her brakes, nothing." She says her husband had "a big heart" and would "help anybody." She adds that her family was already planning the Saturday funeral for Andrew's mother, who also recently died. On a GoFundMe for the Rosas family, Jennifer Rosas' sister implores others to "please, please pay attention while you're driving, even taking your eyes off the road for a couple seconds can result in death." The sheriff's office is investigating the crash. Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel says no charges have yet been filed against the driver, a 32-year-old from Merrill. The case will be reviewed by prosecutors. (More fatal car crashes stories.)
