Man Arrested After Tipping $22K at Bar
Joel Boyers.   (Metro Nashville Police Department)

Joel Boyers was removed from the JW Marriot bar in Nashville on Monday and charged with public intoxication and possessing a firearm while intoxicated, but some people there will still remember him fondly: Before he was arrested, he tipped his servers $22,000. Police say they were contacted by the 39-year-old's worried friends after he sent them bizarre text messages about drinking with a gun, taking drugs that "increased his intelligence," and giving away his child on Facebook, the Tennessean reports. When police arrived at the hotel, staff told them that Boyers had caused disruption with his gigantic tips because servers, unsurprisingly, were competing to wait on him.

Police say Boyers surrendered his firearm and admitted that he had been drinking and smoking marijuana all day. Police say records show Boyers had consumed more than a dozen drinks from the minibar in his hotel room and two drinks at the hotel bar. "I work at Tractor Supply. He's welcome to come into my store and tip me if he wants to," visitor Brad Beck told WZTV after the arrest, adding: "He'll probably need that for legal fees and bail money." Records show Boyers was released on bond several hours after he was booked into jail. He has a court date next month. (A $400 tip was just the beginning for a waitress in Hawaii.)
