They've faced backlash and even death threats, but the two men who say they were abused by Michael Jackson when they were kids are still speaking out. Wade Robson and James Safechuck, subjects of the new Leaving Neverland documentary by Dan Reed, sat down with USA Today and offered more on their allegations, including their belief that the late pop star specifically targeted them ("he has a way of sensing weakness in families," Safechuck says), that he called women "conniving," and that he became jealous of the singer Sheryl Crow and dissed her appearance after Safechuck revealed he had a crush on her. In a trailer for the movie, Robson says Jackson warned him that both he and Jackson would go to jail if anyone ever found out about the extent of their relationship.
Safechuck, meanwhile, alleges Jackson even taped one of their sex acts, then "immediately freaked out" and taped over it. "He was very careful, but that was his one sort of slip," Safechuck says. Both Robson and Safechuck have their own sons now, and they talk about how their relationship with Jackson has impacted their parenting: Robson, for instance, says he's been "triggered" at seeing his child's personality emerge as a quiet one—Robson was also quiet growing up, and "if he's like me, is the same thing going to happen to him?" He notes he can't even leave his son with a babysitter. The men also talk about the struggle to forgive Jackson. Robson says he's "working on it," while Safechuck notes, "[I] can't give a two-sentence sound bite for that." HBO will air the two-part Leaving Neverland on March 3 and 4.
