Saga of Arrested Huawei Executive Turns New Page

Canada is allowing Huawei's CFO to be extradited to the US—but that doesn't mean she'll be extradited anytime soon. Mere hours before the deadline to decide, Canadian officials said Friday that US charges against Meng Wanzhou have met conditions for her extradition, the CBC reports. She is accused along with Huawei of bank fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy in allegedly trying to get around US sanctions on Iran.

But the process for her extradition will likely take months or even years as US charges are presented to her legal team, a Canadian judge considers the extradition, and the minister of justice makes a final decision, per the Toronto Star; appeals could drag things out even further, a security expert tells the Globe & Mail. In granting Meng a $10 million bail in Vancouver, a judge said he's seen such cases last 10 years or more. Meng's team claims the charges are political and rooted in America's trade dispute with China.
