The San Francisco Giants' CEO was caught on video wrenching a cellphone from his wife's hand and causing her to fall as she screamed for help, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Larry Baer and his wife Pam were at San Francisco Plaza Friday morning when a bystander shot the 5-second video posted by TMZ. "Oh my God, no, help!" Pam screamed as her 61-year-old husband tried grabbing the phone and pulled her from the chair. A second, 10-second video shows Baer stressfully walking around and saying "Stop, Pam, stop," as she says in the background, "Oh my god. Oh my god." The man who recorded the video says the Baers had a "very emotional conversation" that turned into "an argument," and after the apparent assault happened, he and other men stepped in to break it up.
Area workers confirm they either heard or saw the couple's roughly 20-minute argument, which included Larry starting to walk off as Pam said, "Larry, sit down, sit down," and Larry telling her at one point, "Let's go to counseling today." Larry has issued a statement apologizing and saying the incident "is not reflective of the kind of a person that I aspire to be." Pam describes them as "quite embarrassed" and says she took his cellphone and refused to give it back: "I started to get up and the chair I was sitting in began to tip. Due to an injury I sustained in my foot three days ago, I lost my balance. I did not sustain any injury based on what happened today. Larry and I always have been and still are happily married." Major League Baseball is looking into the matter, and police are investigating. (More assault stories.)
