"You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things." So Taylor Swift carries gunshot bandages. The singer made the revelation in Elle in a list of the "30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30." The bombing at the Manchester Arena and mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival left Swift "completely terrified" of touring, the singer writes. Fear for her fans and herself sparked extensive security efforts at her concerts and carried over into the rest of her life. "I carry QuikClot army grade bandage dressing," she says, "which is for gunshot or stab wounds." The company says on its website that the military has bought millions of units of QuikClot Combat Gauze and that the product has been "proven on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan."

Swift points out that websites and tabloids have printed the addresses of her homes, and the BBC reports that she has dealt with stalkers. She got a restraining order against a man who had a knife when he tried to get into her home, and another man was arrested after taking a shovel to her front door. That man got six months in jail after breaking into her apartment in New York and taking a shower, then falling asleep. She got another restraining order last fall against a man who threatened to rape and kill her in letters. Swift writes that she tries to remind herself daily of the good in the world and her faith in humanity, noting fear is present but shouldn't dominate. "We have to live bravely in order to truly feel alive, and that means not being ruled by our greatest fears." The singer of "Fifteen" and "22" turns 30 on Dec. 13, per People. (This is why Swift scanned faces of attendees at a recent show.)
